The Blizzard of '09!

We're snowed in here in western North Carolina...storm arrived early on Friday am and we awoke to several inches of snow. The snow continued on Friday; by Saturday, we had nearly 20 inches! Beautiful, but very confining for us as we're at the top of a small mountain, so we've practiced patience and made a very long list of things to buy before this happens again!!

In Our Neighborhood...

This old wreck has been where it sits for many years, obviously! Here's one of our neighbor's pet turkeys, posing for the camera; he has a pair that he raised with hens after finding the eggs in his field.

Grandbabies and Nature...Indescribably Wonderful!

Caught Ellie & Poppy from behind after taking her to see horses.

We raced up the hill beside the church to get this shot before the sun disappeared...great nature show!

Drove over to TN to visit Adam at his whitewater outpost...Ellie went with us and was charmed by her uncle!

We pass this beautiful farm on the way to our friends' home...finally stopped to grab a shot.

First Photo in our NC Studio

We experimented with our lights in the space we've just rented on Depot Street in Waynesville...here's the first official portrait made in our new studio!

June in NC

My good friend Donnie constantly kids me about not posting to my blog, so here's a post just for you, Friend!

These lovely horses live on Crabtree Road; we enjoy seeing them on our way home.

This field is on Bald Creek Road...didn't have time to remove the power lines, but love the look of the old barn and the hayrolls!

Saw my good friend and "ex-wife-in-law" Cathy Sheridan...she's looking great; gardening obviously agrees with her!

We visited the Tailgate Market on Saturday...pretty babies, WORMS!, great-looking fresh flowers and veggies, hillbilly horseshoes (!)...fun and lots of good eats there!

Our friend Mike plays clarinet in this group, which performs every third Sunday May through October. Composed largely of band directors and other musicians, the band uses all donations to help purchase band instruments for needy students in Haywood County. And they put on an incredible show!

We Lost A Great Friend Yesterday

Our dear friend Bill Edgar fell while visiting Atlanta, causing a brain hemorrhage from which he did not recover. We owe so much to this generous soul and his beautiful Linda, who have been our friends and mentors over the past 15 years. We will miss him.

Night is drawing nigh.
For all that has been - Thanks!
To all that shall be - Yes!

We Wanna BE IN NC!!

It's time to cut hay in Crabtree. Several farmers have been cutting this week and the smell of fresh-cut hay is positively intoxicating. AND the honeysuckle is in full bloom, so we've enjoyed the wonderful scents!

This young bird visited our feeder yesterday and seemed to love the sunflower seeds.

We drove over Crabtree Mountain on the way home tonight and spotted this old lady beside the road. Old barns have such character and, I'm sure, stories to tell!

Here's my favorite shot of the valley...you can see the horses mid-field and the rolls of hay which the neighbors have helped crop.
We have LOVED being here this week...just confirms our desire to spend more and more time here in North Carolina. We spent time with our bestest buddies, ate lots of good food, visited some new places and just generally had a wonderful time. It will be so hard to leave tomorrow...the moon and stars were beautiful from the hot tub tonight and the fireflies put on a show. We could hear the frogs bellowing from the pond below. The temperature is 60 degrees at 10:30 pm with a gentle breeze...sound like heaven? IT IS!

Brittany & Caleb

Here's my adorable nephew and his lovely bride-to-be...photos made at one of their favorite spots in Wayne County, GA.

Alyson & Nick

Our beautiful bride and her handsome groom from April 4! Alyson and Nick were married at First Methodist in Blackshear...lots of amazing stained glass, too!

Thanks to you and your family, Larry !

As an Operation Love Reunited studio, we had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful family before Larry headed for Afghanistan. Let's keep all our fine service men and women (and their families) in our prayers as they protect our freedom.

Captured Moments Video Album

Flooding Still Apparent in South Georgia

Here's what's left of the flooding at the Okefenokee Country Club as of this morning.

Here's the train at Jamestown; this crossing was closed yesterday because part of it was under water. The water at the right is the "pond" that is usually sandpits.

This is a home located off the Blackshear Highway...sad.

This is the Altamaha River in Wayne County...most of the year, there's a small sandbar where the brush is growing in the river and all the water up in the woods on the left of the river isn't there!

Paying It Forward

Operation Love Reunited is a great endeavor by pro photographers to provide images for those who are leaving our country to serve in the Armed Forces. Here's an image of Ben & Lynn, our first OPR family...prayers and thanks to them both for their willingness to have him serve to protect our country.

Mississippi Wedding

I've been too busy to post lately...just returned from Mississippi where we enjoyed capturing images and video of Marilyn's and Jim's beautiful wedding! Despite the cold, blustery weather, we had a great time working with this adorable couple and their terrific families!

March in North Carolina

The majority of our visit this time was spent inside because it RAINED outside! Of course, since NC is still in drought conditions, we're not really complaining, especially since we have a view like this from the back porch!
This morning, St. Patrick's Day, we awoke to BEAUTIFUL sunny weather...even the daffodils are up and smiling!

We drove out to Max Patch and hiked up to the top with friends...magnificent views! Met this duo, sisters from Chicago hiking the AT. It was a wonderful day!

Cataloochee Elk

We postponed our trip to Knoxville because of the weather, but late in the afternoon, the sky cleared and we decided to make a quick trip to Cataloochee. What a bonus! These two young elk were sparring alongside the road as we left...first time we'd seen elk at Cataloochee. We were the only visitors today, but it was certainly well worth the trip!

Elite Hair & Nail Salon

These lovely ladies are the ones you'll meet when you visit Elite Hair & Nail Salon. We had a great time photographing them and they do wonderful work!
"Magic is a sudden opening of the mind to the wonder of existence. It is a sense that there is much more to life than we usually recognize; that we do not have to be confined by the limited views that our family, our society, or our own habitual thoughts impose on us; that life contains many dimensions, depths, textures, and meanings extending far beyond our familiar beliefs and concepts."
_John Welwood
